1977 Pontiac Astre Wagon Formula?

Postby stage169 » Fri Dec 03, 2010 8:29 pm

Anyone seen one? If Jeff's 77 Astre Formula is 1 of less than 350 then there was over 1200 of these Astre Wagon Formula's. The C15 is the Wagon and the C77 is a hatchback.

I guess the hood decal was something by itself.

Great Find!!!!

Even PHS did not have those numbers. Were did you find them?

And yes just like 74-81 Trans Am's, the hood decal was optional, but most cars had them. I would now tend to beleive that there were around 1400 77 Astre Formula HB's made.

I have never seen a wagon in person, I have just spoke to a guy that was the original owner of a black Automatic wagon, he said there were 2 cars on the dealers lot his and a red manual trans car. He send me scans of some pages out of his photo album, and you can just see the gold lettering on the doors, and hatch.

Could you please E-mail me a copy of the complete document?

Thanks for posting it!!!!

I can email you the 75 to 80 reports if you like. Each page is 800k or more so I email from work. If you just want 77 or that page let me know.

Last year talking to GM Heritage they told me Pontiac had just swamped them with material. Finally they found these!

If we just had a number for one..... maybe down the road something might show up. At least one has been seen!

After getting these reports for all the makes more questions always come up. If a lot more people look at them we stand a better chance at getting all the info possible out of them. I'm basically clueless :?

:th: Thanks for posting info on production numbers. I think I have an astre wagon formula. The paint is gone, but the car has a 2.5l 5sp, a formula breather, chrome valve cover, thick sway bars (handling kit?), and TA sterring wheel. I was planning a v6, with 200r4, TA hoodscoop, and steel Pontiac ralleys (5 lug), but may go stock now thar I know how rare it is.

Look on the trim tag for the numbers 66 that is the option code for a Formula. Here is a shot of my Yellow cars trim tag. The only other way to tell is by finding a build sheet in the car, or spending the $$$ about $60.00 to have Pontiac Historical Services run the paper work for you.

Other ways to tell if it is a Formula, there are a few Must have options, Power Steering, and Tilt Column among them. Other features are as you mentioned a Formula will have a Trans Am Style Formula Wheel (not 100% as my yellow car the original owner paid an extra $18.00 to not have on, it came with a 3 spoke delux steering wheel.) Rally Gauges, RTS Sunpension with front and rear sway bars, either Ralley or Snow Flake wheels (if Rally wheels they will have the bright trim rings around the 4 slots like the Olds and Buick Rally wheels.) And a wagon will have the rear air deflector.

Like I have said previously all I have are some old copies of pictures of a Black Formula Wagon from the original owner. Not very detailed.

My wagon does have tilt & power steering. There is no air deflector, but the rear end has been damaged ( the car has a cpvc luggage rack and a hood scoop made from a cake pan, along with a brushed on baby blue paint job -- not a cream puff). The line on the trim code is 519066 . . . F
I will try to get pictures, if I can find the camera and figure out how to put them on the computor.

Yes indeed great info. Seems like mine and Jeff's are the only Astre Formulas on this board. Mine does have the hood decal. Didn't know the hood decal was an option. I thought it was automatic that the Formula option included the hood decal.

Thanks for the info, I'll still try to get pictures today. If it's a clone it is very complete, down to the hadling kit. I sorta hope its not, so i won't feel so bad modifying it, but it would have been nice to stumble across something rare.

Thanks for the info.

If I decide not to use some formula parts, I'll let you Know.
