Conversion - Wheels and Tires
I planned to keep as close to the stock Vega GT sleeper look as possible, so I originally ran 14" Pontiac Rally II steel wheels painted to match the original Vega GT rims with the stock GT bow-tie center cap and B.F. Goodrich 205-60R14 Touring T/A tires all around. With the 700R4’s steep first gear ratio, overdrive, and lock-up converter, I should have enough to get out of the hole (if I can hook up) and still get over 20 MPG on the highway. I later upgraded to 15 x 7" ’98 S-10 alloy wheels when I needed bigger rims to clear the rear disk brake calipers. This is described in more detail later.
